AAHC Is Still Being Promoted. Official Records List It as Dissolved.

A credibility signal that remains in circulation

The Association of American Halal Certifiers, commonly called AAHC, still appears on current halal-certifier recognition, affiliation, and partner pages. American Halal Foundation calls AAHC the lead American council of halal certifiers and describes it in the present tense as a not-for-profit organization. Halal Certification Solutions publishes substantially similar language. Halal Food Council USA lists AAHC as a national membership, and Halal Transactions of Omaha names it as an associate or partnering halal certifying body [8] [9] [10] [11].

These references matter because recognition pages are designed to communicate authority. A manufacturer, retailer, importer, or consumer may reasonably understand a listed association as a current organization capable of maintaining membership, governance, standards, and oversight. The question is not whether AAHC once existed. Its historical website shows that it did. The question is whether the legal and operational organization being invoked today is current and verifiable [6].

USDHS examined the exact Illinois corporate record, federal tax-status data, the historical and current domain, present-day certifier pages, and a current foreign-government recognition list. The investigation distinguishes verified facts from publisher claims and unanswered questions.

The Illinois record says dissolved

The Illinois Secretary of State Business Entity Search identifies file number 66861716 as ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN HALAL CERTIFIERS. The official result describes it as an Illinois not-for-profit entity, gives January 13, 2009 as the registered or effective date, and lists the entity status as DISSOLVED [1].

The visible official result does not state the dissolution date or cause. This article therefore does not claim that dissolution occurred in 2013, resulted from a particular filing failure, or followed misconduct. Those details were not available in the record reviewed.

Illinois law gives the status a concrete meaning. The General Not For Profit Corporation Act states that dissolution terminates corporate existence and limits later affairs to winding up and liquidation [4]. Illinois also makes clear that incorporation as a not-for-profit and federal tax exemption are separate matters [5].

Federal tax exemption was automatically revoked in 2013

The IRS automatic-revocation bulk file contains EIN 80-0349376 for a name truncated as ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN HALAL, at 125 N Vincent Drive in Bolingbrook, Illinois. It records exemption type code 06, an automatic-revocation effective date of May 15, 2013, and a posting date of September 9, 2013 [2].

The IRS explains that automatic revocation follows three consecutive years without a required annual return or notice. Automatic revocation is an administrative consequence. It does not establish fraud or dishonesty [3].

The same EIN was absent from the August 11, 2026 Illinois active-exempt Business Master File and the June 9, 2026 Publication 78 file reviewed for this investigation [2]. A historical revocation entry alone would not rule out later reinstatement, but the EIN search found no current active-exempt record in those official files. No current IRS reinstatement or determination letter was located.

The public trail grows cold while recognition claims remain

The Internet Archive preserves AAHC's website at aahalalcert.org in January 2012, with navigation for mission, services, members, and contact information. The current domain displays a generic Bluehost hosting page rather than an AAHC organization site [6] [7]. The investigation did not locate a current AAHC member directory, bylaws, board roster, standards library, meeting record, standing certificate, or working public contact channel.

At the same time, current industry pages continue using the AAHC name. Halal Food Council USA links its AAHC membership claim to the inactive historical domain. Halal Certification Solutions labels an entry AAHC but directs its Learn More button to ahac-halal.org, a site identifying a differently named Association of Halal Certifiers. No record reviewed established that AHAC is the Illinois AAHC entity, a successor, or an authorized name change [9] [10] [14].

A 2025 Halal Times article goes further by saying HFC-USA's AAHC membership helps establish recognition by governments and organizations, but it supplies no current AAHC legal-status record, membership document, or government source for that inference [12]. These gaps do not prove intent. They show that claims capable of influencing reliance are being presented without the current evidence a reader would need to verify them.

What this means for certificate reliance

AAHC affiliation should not be presented or accepted as a current, independently verified credential while the exact Illinois corporation remains dissolved, its federal exemption remains revoked in the records reviewed, its historical domain is inactive, and no current governing or membership record is publicly supplied.

That conclusion concerns the evidentiary value of the AAHC affiliation claim. It does not automatically invalidate a halal certificate issued by American Halal Foundation, Halal Food Council USA, Halal Certification Solutions, Halal Transactions of Omaha, or any other organization. Each certifier must be evaluated on its own current legal identity, scope, standards, auditors, accreditation, foreign-government recognition, certificate status, and traceability.

JAKIM's foreign halal certification body list effective January 30, 2026 names three United States bodies: IFANCA, Islamic Services of America, and American Halal Foundation. It does not list AAHC as a recognized U.S. certification body [13]. AHF's own JAKIM recognition is separate evidence and must not be confused with AAHC's status.

What remains unanswered

The official Illinois result available to this investigation did not disclose when or why AAHC was dissolved. The public record reviewed also did not establish whether a separate unincorporated association, successor entity, or differently registered organization now uses the AAHC name.

No current documentary chain was located connecting the dissolved Illinois corporation to the separate AHAC website. No current AAHC governance document was found explaining who may represent the association, admit members, confer recognition, maintain standards, investigate complaints, or withdraw affiliation.

These are unresolved questions, not accusations. They are also questions that should be answered before AAHC's name is used to influence a business or consumer's confidence in a halal certificate.

The standard for accountable recognition claims

A recognition or membership claim should be current, scoped, dated, and traceable to the organization that grants it. If the granting body is dissolved, revoked, inactive online, or unable to provide a current register, the claim should be removed, qualified as historical, or supported by a documented successor record.

HIPS 1002 treats halal certification as a governed system with identifiable leadership, religious authority, competent personnel, records, review, and accountable decisions [15]. The same transparency principle applies when a certifier asks the public to rely on an association's name.
